Buffett announced that he will give more than 80 percent to charitable foundations. In 2020, he boosted that amount to 99 percent. The principal beneficiary was the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that was established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his then wife, Melinda. It was dealt with issues of global health and education; Bill and Buffett have maintained a close relationship since the early 1990s. Other organizations that were able to receive donations were those that were run by Buffett's kids and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation named after his late wife. This foundation focused on reproductive health of women and funded scholarships for college. In the year 2010 Buffett along with Gates Gateses created the Giving Pledge, an invitation to wealthy people to contribute the majority of their fortune to charities.
